Happy Smiling Man

Does visiting the dentist make you anxious? Do you put treatment off because of bad experiences in the past, or fear of the process overall? If so, you’re not alone. Approximately 1 in 3 people have at least some type of dental phobia or anxiety.

Unfortunately, past experiences or fear of the dentist can often mean that necessary treatments are never completed. And when that happens, simple therapies become more complex. In turn, the time and money required to treat it can also compound.

The good news is that there’s a safe, gentle way to complete your necessary dental treatments: sedation. With our trusted Philadelphia sedation dentist, Dr. Eidelson, you are in exceptional care.

Benefits of Dental Sedation

Our Philadelphia Sedation Dentistry patients are able to:

  • Schedule fewer appointments
  • Complete multiple procedures in a single visit
  • Enjoy a relaxing experience from start to finish
  • Tune everything else going on around them
  • Address more complex issues that require additional time

Sedation is wonderful for people who want to feel comfortable, whether or not they have dental phobia. Even our patients who need an extraction or dental implants placed may prefer to do so under sedation.

Should I Consider Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation is a wonderful add-on if you want to kick back, relax, and schedule most of your treatments during the same appointment. Whether you feel anxious or not, there’s something to be said for the advantages of not really caring about what else is going on around you. Or to feel like you’re sleeping through the procedure altogether (depending on the type of sedation that you’re getting).

How Dental Sedation Works

There are different types of sedation dentistry to choose from. The lightest and most common is nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which provides moderate analgesic relief without any drowsy side-effects. In fact, nitrous reverses quite quickly and it’s safe enough for you to drive yourself home afterward. But during the process of the appointment, it will feel as if you’ve had a couple of glasses of wine.

Other types of sedation include oral and IV sedation. Both make you feel quite sleepy and possibly even lead to amnesia, causing you to forget everything about your appointment. These sedatives are best for more complex or surgical procedures, such as dental implant placement or extractions. Due to the lingering effects as the medication wears off, you’ll need to have someone drive you home afterward.

We’re Committed to Your Comfort

Patient comfort is essential to us. When you feel relaxed, we’re able to provide you with more efficient care. And in most cases, easing your anxiety makes it possible to treat issues sooner, when they’re less invasive to your smile.
